What a Weight Loss Retreat in Thailand Actually Involves

Gym floor with treadmills and strength equipment at a weight loss retreat in Thailand

People email us with some version of the same question almost every week: “What do you actually do all day?” It’s a fair thing to wonder. Weight loss retreats get sold online with a lot of glossy language and not much substance, and Thailand has no shortage of programs that look identical from the outside. We’d rather just walk you through what a week at ours looks like in practice, because the honest version is more convincing than any sales copy we could write.

A typical day, not a fantasy itinerary

Mornings start early. Coffee at the gym before 7am, then a run, hike, or beach session while the island is still cool and the light’s good. Mid-morning shifts into strength or conditioning classes. Somewhere in the week you’ll get two personal training sessions and two massages, spaced out rather than front-loaded, and afternoons stay flexible — yoga, mobility work, or another class if you want it. Saturdays are for an adventure day, usually a hike or a boat trip. Sunday is a full rest day. No training, no guilt about it.

That’s the actual shape of the week on our Weight Loss Transformation package, and it’s deliberately not a boot camp schedule. Guests who arrive expecting to be run into the ground for six days straight are usually surprised at how much recovery is built in on purpose, not as an afterthought.

The food question, since this is where people psych themselves out

Nobody wants to book three weeks of feeling hungry on a tropical island. We get it. The package includes three meals a day, seven days a week, cooked at our own EATS café on site, and the approach is clean eating rather than calorie starvation — real food, portioned sensibly, built around what you’re training for that week. We won’t pretend this is a spa where you nibble on lettuce between yoga poses. Guests train hard and eat properly, and the two things are meant to work together, not fight each other.

If you’ve tried the crash-diet route before and it didn’t stick, that’s more or less the point we’re making. A week of starvation might move the scale temporarily, but it teaches you nothing you can use once you’re back home. Structured, sustainable eating is slower to show results and a lot more likely to actually last.

The coaching behind it

Our founder, Billy Orr, has been coaching weight loss clients for over 15 years, including work on The Biggest Loser Asia — so this isn’t a program built by a wellness influencer with a nice Instagram feed. One of his longtime students, Nai, lost 64kg using the same training and nutrition approach we run at Lamai today. We mention that not to promise you’ll match it, because everyone’s starting point is different, but because it says something about the method being built for the long haul rather than a quick before-and-after photo.

Every guest gets a consultation on arrival and a dedicated consultant who adjusts your training focus based on your goals and your body composition data, tracked weekly on a Garmin. You’re not handed a generic class schedule and left to figure it out. Someone’s actually watching what’s working and what isn’t.

What’s included, so you’re not guessing

The Weight Loss Transformation package runs from 26,000 THB for one week up to 280,000 THB for twelve, and covers a private room, unlimited classes, your initial consultation, ice baths, airport transfers, weekly check-ins, two spa sessions and two massages a week, supplements, all meals, and bottled water throughout your stay. You can see the full package breakdown if you want to compare it against our other options, since some guests end up better suited to Complete Fitness or VIP Body Transformation depending on how much personal attention they want.

Who this actually suits

We’ll be straight with you: this isn’t for someone chasing a five-day miracle. If you want to lose ten kilos by Friday, we’re the wrong retreat, and honestly, so is every other one making that promise. This suits people who can commit to at least two weeks, ideally longer, and who want a genuine reset — training habits, eating habits, and enough distance from home routines to actually change something. We’ve had guests in their twenties and guests well into their seventies go through the same core program, scaled to fit them individually rather than forced into one intensity for everyone.

It also suits people who are a bit skeptical of the whole “retreat” industry, frankly. We’d rather you came in with reasonable expectations and left impressed than arrived expecting magic and left disappointed that hard work was still required.

Before you book

Think honestly about how long you can commit to, since the longer packages give the training and eating changes time to actually become habits rather than a nice week away. Read through a few testimonials from guests who’ve done the program at different lengths and ages — the range of starting points there tells you more than any package description can. And if you’ve got specific questions about your own situation, injuries, timelines, whatever it is, message us directly on WhatsApp and we’ll give you a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. You can also reach us through our contact page if you’d rather put it in writing. Either way, we’d tell you honestly if we didn’t think this was the right fit for you — that’s more useful to both of us than a booking that doesn’t work out.
