At Lamai Fitness Retreat on Koh Samui, we’ve been helping people lose weight and keep it off for over 15 years. Not through crash diets. Not through starving yourself while doing three-a-day sessions until you collapse. We do it properly — and that starts with understanding that your body and your situation are completely different from the person training next to you.
It starts with a conversation
Before you touch a dumbbell or lace up your trainers, you’ll sit down with your mentor. They’ll ask questions. Lots of them. What you eat, how you sleep, what’s worked before, what hasn’t, what injuries you’re carrying, and honestly — what’s going on in your head. Because weight loss isn’t just a physical thing. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
From there, your mentor builds a plan around you. Not a template. Not a PDF that gets handed to everyone. An actual plan that takes into account where you are right now and where you want to get to. Your training schedule, your nutrition, your recovery — all of it is mapped out for you.
The food side of things
Let’s talk about eating, because this is where most people trip up. We don’t do meal replacement shakes. We don’t cut out entire food groups. What we do is teach you how to eat clean — properly — using fresh, whole ingredients that actually taste good.
Being in Thailand helps massively with this. The food here is packed with herbs, spices and fresh vegetables. Our on-site café serves meals that are nutritionally balanced but never boring. You’ll eat well, you won’t feel hungry, and you’ll start to understand how food fuels your body rather than working against it. We also teach you how to keep this going when you get home. That’s the bit most retreats skip, and it’s the reason most people put the weight back on within a few months.
Training that actually makes sense
Your days here are full but not insane. There’s a structured schedule of classes running from early morning through to late afternoon — everything from HIIT and strength training to yoga, Muay Thai and breathwork. Your mentor will steer you towards the right sessions based on your goals, your fitness level and how your body is responding.
Some mornings you’ll be running along Lamai Beach as the sun comes up. Others you’ll be in the gym working on strength. The variety keeps things interesting and stops your body from plateauing. And because every session is coached, you’ll have someone watching your form and pushing you just the right amount — hard enough to make progress, not so hard you burn out by Wednesday.
Your head matters as much as your body
Here’s something we’ve learned after 15 years of doing this: the people who get the best results aren’t necessarily the fittest when they arrive. They’re the ones who commit to changing their mindset. That means being honest about the habits that got them here, being open to doing things differently, and trusting the process even when it’s uncomfortable.
Our founder Billy Orr knows a thing or two about this. He coached on The Biggest Loser Asia, where his client Nai lost 64kg and finished second on the show. Billy’s seen what’s possible when someone truly commits, and he’s built a team of coaches who share that same philosophy — meet people where they are, support them without judgement, and give them the tools to succeed long after they leave the island.

Our Weight Loss Transformation package is all-inclusive. That means your private room, all meals and drinks, unlimited classes, a personal consultation, weekly check-ins, detox flush, ice baths, airport transfers, protein shakes, supplements, spa sessions, personal training sessions, massages, Garmin body stats tracking and a water bottle and hiking bag. You show up, we take care of the rest.
For those who want to go further, the VIP package adds daily spa and massage, five PT sessions per week, a physio session, 3D body scanning, an IV drip, a Garmin watch on loan and an aftercare program for when you get back home.
This isn’t a one-week fix
We’re not going to pretend you’ll completely transform your life in seven days. You might, depending on how long you stay — but what we’re really doing is giving you a reset. A chance to step out of your normal routine, learn new habits, and prove to yourself that you can do this. Some guests come for two weeks, some for a month, some come back year after year. There’s no minimum or maximum. Whatever time you can give yourself is time well spent.
