The Best Time to Visit Koh Samui for a Fitness Retreat

Group of fitness retreat guests hiking a viewpoint overlooking Koh Samui

We get asked this constantly, usually right after someone’s found our packages and started looking at flights: “When’s the best time to actually come?” There’s a short answer and a longer, more useful one. The short answer is February through June. The longer answer is that the “wrong” time isn’t nearly as wrong as people assume, and we’d rather tell you that straight than let a Google search about monsoon season talk you out of a booking that would’ve worked fine.

What the weather actually does here

Koh Samui sits at a pretty steady 28-30°C for most of the year, which is part of why this works as a training location at all. According to our own FAQ, the rain season generally lands in November, and the hot season peaks around April, with February through June running as the drier, hotter stretch of the calendar. November is also the coolest month, if “cooler” is doing a lot of work in a place that rarely dips below the high twenties.

That’s genuinely most of what you need to know. This isn’t a place with a brutal six-month wet season that shuts everything down. It’s a tropical island with one month that gets noticeably wetter and a handful of months that get noticeably hotter, and neither extreme stops the retreat from running.

How the schedule actually holds up

We run six days of training a week with Sunday off for recovery. Mornings are outdoor and beach-based — HIIT, Muay Thai, running, hiking, the kind of sessions that benefit from open space and sea air. Afternoons shift toward strength work, Hyrox training, and recovery sessions. That split matters more than people think when they’re worrying about rain: a shower that rolls through in the afternoon doesn’t touch the morning beach session that already happened, and vice versa. We’re open year-round except Christmas Day, rain or shine, because the training doesn’t actually depend on a clear sky for six hours straight.

Picking a month for your actual goal

If you want the most predictable weather with the least heat to fight through, February to June is where most of our bookings land, and for good reason — it’s the driest stretch and still warm enough that you’re not layering up for a beach run. If you specifically want maximum heat and don’t mind sweating through every session (some of our Muay Thai and Hyrox guests genuinely prefer this, oddly enough), April is as hot as it gets. And if you’d rather train somewhere cooler and skip the peak-season crowds, November through January is worth a look — it’s when we see more of our VIP Over 50s guests booking in, since the lower temperatures suit mobility-first training better than a 34°C afternoon does.

We wouldn’t tell anyone to avoid November outright. We would tell them to expect more rain than the rest of the year and to pack accordingly. If your main goal is a specific event — say, you’re building toward Hyrox and want a dedicated block on our Muay Thai & Hyrox package — the month matters far less than just getting the training block booked and showing up.

What we’d actually recommend

If you have total flexibility, book February through June and don’t overthink it. If you’re locked into a specific window because of work or family, don’t cancel a November trip over weather anxiety — the training still runs, the beach mornings still happen more often than not, and a rain shower here tends to pass in under an hour. We’ve had guests fly in worried about the forecast and leave saying the weather was a non-issue. We’ve also had guests visit in April and underestimate how much water they’d need to drink. Neither extreme is a reason to skip the trip; both are reasons to check the schedule and our FAQ before you book so you know what you’re walking into.

A few practical notes, whatever month you pick

We’re about 25 minutes from Koh Samui Airport, and airport transfers are free on every package, so getting here isn’t the hard part regardless of season. The bigger adjustment is usually the humidity, not the rain. Even in the “cooler” months, you’re training in a tropical climate, and most guests need two or three days to acclimatise before their energy on the beach sessions really clicks. That’s true in November as much as it is in April — it’s just more noticeable when the heat is higher.

If you’re coming from a genuinely cold climate and booking in the hotter months, build in a bit of extra hydration and don’t expect to hit your usual pace on day one. If you’re booking in November for the cooler weather, bring a light layer for the evenings and something waterproof you can throw on for the odd downpour — you won’t need it often, but you’ll be glad to have it when you do.

Whatever package you’re considering — Complete Fitness, Weight Loss Transformation, or one of the VIP options — the timing question is worth ten minutes of thought and no more. If you want a straight answer about a specific month you’re considering, message us on WhatsApp and we’ll tell you honestly what to expect, rather than just telling you it’s always perfect here.
